Bertha M. Hook 1917-2008 Thursday, February 14, 2008 Abingdon - Bertha M. Hook, 90, Abingdon, died at 5 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 12, 2008) at Care Center of Abingdon.She was born March 3, 1917, in Sydney, Australia, to William Leonard and Amy Bertha Bronsden Millett. She married Howard T. Hook on Aug. 14, 1943, in Brisbane, Australia. Bertha is survived by her children, Pauline (and husband Loren) Tessier of London Mills, Diane (and companion Roger Bice) Shugart of rural Abingdon, Rodney (and wife Rita) Hook of rural Abingdon and Susan (and husband Nathan) Johnson of Winslow; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Damon Shugart, and two sisters. Bertha graduated from high school in Australia. After her marriage, she came to the United States in 1947 and lived in the Hermon and Abingdon areas. She worked at Blue Bell Manufacturing Company in Abingdon and later worked at Formfit in Monmouth, which later became Smoler Brothers. She was of Methodist faith. She was a member of the Abingdon Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting and crafting. She also enjoyed going to yard sales. Cremation will be accorded. Service will be announced later.
